The Sweet Mandolin Ensemble consists of students of the Advanced Mandolin group class at Sweet Music in Holyoke, performing chamber music throughout Western Massachusetts.
In 2012 the Advanced Mandolin Group Class at Sweet Music Studio wanted to study Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 3. Since then, the group has studied Mozart Eine Kleine Nacht Musik, Mozart Flute Quartet and Mozart's string quartet in Dm op 458 "The Hunt"; Bach Brandenburg Nos 3 and 6 as well as the Bach Double Concerto for two violins (transcribed for mandolins), the Schubert trio in Dminor, Vivaldi's Winter Largo and "La Folia" as well as dozens of other smaller pieces by various classical and baroque composers.
The Ensemble currently consists of Keith Higginson - mandolin, Mary Jennings - mandolin, Nancy Kida - mandolin, Will Melton - mandola, and Adam Sweet - mandocello/director. Additional members include our friends Joe and Barbara Blumenthal (bass and mandolin), Jim Armenti - mandolin, Sue Burkhart - mandolin, Dave Folta - mandolin, Nancy Hoople - mandola, and Joanna Vaughn - mandocello. Members of the ensemble also perform with L'Esperance Mandolin Ensemble from Providence, RI. Infrequently, the two ensembles join as one to perform concerts in the metro Springfield area as the Springfield Mandolin Orchestra, a 501(c)3 Non-Profit organization.
The Advanced Mandolin group class meets at 7pm Mondays at Sweet Music, 4 Open Square Way, suite 103 in Holyoke, MA. The class is open to any mandolin player that can read music. Learn more here.
"Private (and group) lessons with Adam Sweet of Sweet Music are exceptional! As an adult, returning to the instrument after a 30 year hiatus, I am relieved to find a suitable and PATIENT instructor so close to my home." ~ Robert M., Holyoke, MA
