Although the primary focus of private lessons is to learn how to play a particular instrument (Mr. Sweet offers lessons on violin, viola, cello, guitar, mandolin, mandola, mandocello), lessons include an in-depth focus on relevant music theory (including scales, arpeggios, chords), relevant exercises (4th finger exercises, stretching and other techniques) and much more.
As the student progresses through proper posture, bow hold or pick hold, left and right hand technique, Sweet introduces tunes and melodies that are within student's ability, starting with simple melodies progressing to more and more challenging ones.
"Private (and group) lessons with Adam Sweet of Sweet Music are exceptional! As an adult, returning to the instrument after a 30 year hiatus, I am relieved to find a suitable and PATIENT instructor so close to my home." ~ Robert M., Holyoke, MA
Mr. Sweet's pedagogy is the music of the British Isles and that which became known as Americana, including "Celtic" and "Bluegrass" music and everything in between. Primarily dance forms, these tunes are well known within the celtic and bluegrass circles here in New England, so the student will be familiar and comfortable playing this music with friends and in groups.
